Barrie Hope - We bought the 1958 Magnette ZB Varitone in April 1969, used
it as our only car for 5 years then in 1974 laid it up after it failed its MoT, with
the intention of restoring it.  For all sorts of reasons that didn’t happen until
2006, when we took it to a Magnette specialist in Norwich. Almost exactly 1
year later and a lot poorer we got it back – original engine and a number of
‘new’ body panels I had bought in the early 70s, still with their factory tags
on.
Result: a financial disaster but as an investment in my retirement – magic!

Just so you can recognise the Committee or at least their
cars, here are some photographs.
Peter Ebdon - I have now owned every two seater MG produced from 1949
to 1967 with the last 3 being from new - namely an MG Midget Mk11,
followed by an 1800 engined MGB roadster with centre locking wire wheels
and overdrive and then finally in 1967 an MGBGT Mk1.  Throughout this
period I was a member of the MGCC attached to the South East Centre.
Then in 1999 having married and raised a family I returned to ownership of
an MG and purchased an MGA 1600 which my wife and I still own to this
day.    In 2004 I realised my dream of owning that which I consider to be the
prettiest MG ever produced - a TF1500.    When I returned to ownership of
the "A" I rejoined the Club and was attached to the Abingdon Works Centre.
Finally last year my wife and I discovered England's "Best Kept Secret" and
moved from Oxfordshire to Northumberland and look forward very much to
making lots of new friends in the Tyne Tees Centre.    Professionally I am a
Consulting Engineer and hoping over the next few months to slide
gracefully into retirement, but still remain active when it comes to matters
"Octagonal".
Ian Lambley - Married to Jill.  Joined the Centre in 1977 and seem to have
been on the Committee almost ever since.  Interested in Autotesting in
anything.  At Silverstone, have won the MG Magnette Award, FTD & member
of the Tyne Tees BMC Trophy and California Cup wining teams.  Just
finished rebuilding a 1972 Midget, with my old faithful 1965 Midget next in
line; that has been owned since 1979 and been used for Autotesting,
PCTs, Stage Rallying, Cumbria Classic, daily car, builder's wagon and
low-flying machine etc.  We have also owned a Toyota engined Midget, 2
MG Montegos, MG Metro, MGF, MG ZR (4 off), currently have an Elise S2
111S.
