TYNE TEES OLD SPECKLED HEN RUN
Sunday 31st August 2008 - Sponsored by Greene King
For many years the very successful Abingdon Works Centre has organised what is known as ‘The Old Speckled Hen
Run’. With encouragement from that Centre the Run will soon have a northern sibling to be known as ‘The Tyne Tees
Old Speckled Hen Run’. The Run is not a competition in itself but we will have a prize for ‘Best MG Car’. Route
instructions will be very simple, based on the Tulip style directions with which many people will be familiar.

What we hope will be the start of a regular feature in our calendar, the Inaugural Run will be on Sunday 31st August
2008. We have been lucky to get sponsorship from the brewer of ‘Old Speckled Hen’ beer, Greene King, who make
the splendid potion in Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk. This will allow us to provide a value-for-money event as well as
some promotional freebies to mark your participation.

The run will be over about 70 miles of beautiful Durham countryside, much of which most people never get to see,
starting at
George Hotel in Piercebridge near Darlington and ending at one of the most surprising buildings in the
County, The Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle. If you were simply dropped there you would believe you had been
magically transported to a magnificent chateau in France. The museum contents are many and varied, including a
magical clockwork musical silver swan that was the inspiration for the Museum’s logo. Free guided tours are
available by advance booking.

We will be allowed to park in a prime position in front of the Museum so we are hoping for a wide range of MG cars to
display to the public who will be visiting the Museum, and we hope, encourage some of them to join the MG Car Club.
Your entry fee will allow the driver and navigator entry to the Museum where a wide range of snacks and hot food is
available. There is also plenty of space in the grounds for a picnic if that’s what you prefer.

The start will be at 10 o’clock, staggered to prevent bunching of cars and should finish after a brief halfway stop, at
about 2 o’clock. If the weather permits, you should enjoy a super day fathoming the ups and downs, twists and turns
of Teesdale. Each car will have a Rally plaque so you can wave to those going in the wrong direction – or might that
be you!

The closing date for entries is 10th August, limited this year to 50 cars, so please enter early and help us to make this
an event to remember and one we can build on for subsequent years.
The Entry Form is available here.
